Marie Stuart

I had to go up to the office for a couple of meetings, no longer sneezing but coughing occasionally in an irritating fashion. This week the driver on the bus back lost his nerve re heading up the Shore, even though there's a proper bus stop there now.

I went to have a look at this plaque as I thought they might have scrubbed it up a bit during the Shore refurbishment, but no, it's still scarcely legible. It says

This plaque commemorates
the landing in Leith of
Marie Stuart, Queen of Scots,
upon her return from France
on 19th August 1561.

The story goes that there was no welcoming party there to greet her so she went to Andrew Lamb's House for an hour or so and had some breakfast.
