Westward

Tonight I watched the sun set over the tree-topped ridges that tumble over the land to the west. I realized I had essentially forgotten about the sunset here, I suppose because I've just been so mentally and physically drained at the end of the day. I'd never noticed how beautiful the view to the west is at day's end until this evening.

Since the beginning I've had to remind myself to look up from time to time, as so much of farm work requires looking directly at the ground. Thankfully the birds also help me remember to turn my gaze upwards--it was because I was wandering around the farm looking for winged things that I happened to notice what was before me the whole time.
