Pee(wits) And Shite(poke)

Off to Amwell Nature Reserve again this afternoon to try to shoot Barny in flight. Not many people in the hide. I sat next to a man who had a 300mm 2.8 lens. A guy who I have met twice before trying for the barn owl was there again. I had resolved to zoom in a bit, go for 1/300 sec and no more than 3800 ISO.

As we sat there listening to the peewits piping and the cormorants croaking the light was fading fast. I took the above pic of the lapwings in front of The Gladwin Hide but I was already struggling. I  captured a heron defecating as it took off. This is how the bird got the nickname shitepoke. I had to convert this image to mono to make something of it.

I decided to ditch my long lens and put my 100mm f2.8 on. Barny was very late, arriving at 5:05. I got images but they are rubbish. Both I and the guy with the long 2.8 struggled to get our kit to focus.
