Arrival of the Peloton

Wow what a day!  Corinthian rang at breakfast time to tell me that the amateur riders on the Tour de Yorkshire were heading up through the village so it was a quick bowl of porridge, grab the Yorkshire flag and bunting and the next couple of hours were spent cheering on very soggy riders!  Then it was on the train to Ilkley and a walk up Cowpasture Lane to find a good vantage point to see the professional riders come up the climb.  Tony went up on to the top of the quarry whilst I bagged a spot on a rock halfway up the hill which was given to me by a group of obliging twenty-somethings who had wine and chocolate digestives.  Much good hearted banter ensued and there were several false alarms before the arrival of the helicopter marked the two breakaway riders beginning the climb below.  There were thousands of folks lining the route and enjoying the spectacle.  I've struggled to decide which blip to upload but have gone with this one which I think captures the landscape, Ilkley, the festival and there are also some cyclists in there somewhere!  Afterwards we had much needed tea and muffins at Dr&MrsMackem's  (thank you guys!) before walking back across Ilkley Moor as the afternoon turned into evening.  If you haven't already seen it, drop by DrM's blip to see a great blip of the man himself!

More blips here!
