Bowood 2015 #23 (Wednesday 13th May 2015)

I drove over to Bowood House at 1545 hr and noticed some people had driven as far as the car park in front of the entrance but instead of going in had got out folding chairs in front of their car and had sat down to read the papers. I made directly for the Lake, taking pictures on the way. The pair of swans I'd seen on the previous visit were not in attendance but there were a number of Canada geese and great crested grebes among the gulls, tufted ducks, coots and mallards. I heard a loud splash and looked to see a solitary tern flying above the Lake. It turned around and made a sudden swift dive into the Lake, explaining what the previous splash had been. I got a picture of it perched on a rail a little later. I walked up to the boat house and up the slope of Lake Field along the perimeter.A loud motor I had been hearing turned out to be a drone, being controlled by two people in the adjacent field, presumably doing some filming. They drove off from the staff area later in a sleek van with the lettering Long Way Down.

I sat for awhile in the Spring Garden on the bench seat shown in the Blip.  I don't think I have blipped this area before, so have included it for my Outdoor Places I Have Sat In series. It is so called because of the daffodils and other spring flowers that feature in it, and is a favourite spot for the staff to use on their breaks.

The clematis shown in the Extra was taken in the garden terraces in front of the House, and used the HDR facility built in to the K-50.
