The Old Barking House

After yesterday's blip, this shot probably should have had either the castle or some of the deer which were just across the burn from here, but I like this shot better than any of those ones. Rather less well kept than the cottage at Fairy Dell which I blipped yesterday, but that is probably because there's not much of a need for a barking house these days, given the lack of a fishing industry in Lochranza. It was once used by the fishermen to treat and mend their nets. This building makes it onto Historic Scotland's 'Buildings at Risk' register, which also explains a bit more about what they did to the nets. Not the first time I've blipped it, though the weather has improved somewhat since March!

After a quick walk with the dog, it's been a day of errands and DIY. Mum says 'well, what else are children for?' Nice feeling of satisfaction to have all her curtains and almost all the net curtains up now though. Mum's sitting room is feeling somewhat less goldfish-bowl-like now.
