Goodbyes

The swallows are gathering to say goodbye, suddenly appearing on the telegraph wires opposite in a final flurry. They face a hard slog down to Africa and need to be making a move soon to their new feeding grounds. It always makes me sad to see them go but this morning standing quietly in the field bathed in warm autumn sunshine listening to the twitterings from the dozen or so families was beautiful.

This baby was still being fed, wanting attention from the parents, chattering away above me and didn't quite seem as savvy as the rest staying a tad longer in one place and not as aware of dangers around the wires. I hope he makes it altho' he was being well looked after.
