Arlington and Pentagon

We decided to visit the Cemetery in Arlington today so ventured onto a different metro line.  (Brave!)  It was a beautiful place, very quiet and full of autumn colours contrasting with the primarily white grave stones.  It is a military cemetery so is full of different memorials to different campaigns.  We were in time for the changing of the guard at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and then we went across to the Kennedy family grave.  Poignantly, there are two of their young children buried with Jackie and JFK too.  From the grave site you can look across to the Lincoln Memorial in the distance - apparently, JFK's funeral service was based on that of Lincoln so it's fitting that he lies in sight of the centre of Washington and the Lincoln Memorial I think.  This shot was taken from above the Kennedy Grave by Arlington House and shows a rather unlevel Pentagon,

We decided to walk back from Arlington so our little feet are aching tonight as we  then went off to the Air and Space Museum which is at the far end of the Mall.  A long way.  An interesting museum - I enjoyed learning about the Wright Brothers and particularly Amelia Earhart - what a courageous woman she must have been.  She's in the extras today as is the 1903 Wright brothers flying machine.

Going for a Mexican Meal tonight.  Cousin in Oz recommends the crunchy insects.  I don't think so.  Need to buy some pressies tomorrow.  Cutting it a bit fine!
