Collegiate Church of Alquézar

We flew to Barcelona today with an English tour group, for six days of birding in Spain. Late in the afternoon of our long drive west to our first hotel (in Loarre, northwest of Huesca in Aragon), we stopped in the village of Alquézar, which is dominated by the Collegiate Church (or Castle) of Santa Maria la Mayor, consecrated in 1099.  On a high cliff on the other side of the village, we saw a distant wallcreeper, a rare bird which was the high point of our day--much too far to photograph and too active anyway (we hope to see one closer in the next day or two).

A late dinner at our hotel was superb! And so to bed.
