Dark loch

Loch Eck is always black at its southern end - the hillside rises steeply on either side - but towards the north there are open places where the sky is reflected and with it the snow-dusted hills above. We headed up the track too late actually to arrive in the sun that had tempted us there; it had set behind these hills on the far side of the loch and we walked in a still chill that deepened as the light faded.

This was taken from a small knoll before we headed back down to the road; the pinkish glow at the head of the loch shows where the mist still lingers. By 4pm, when we got back to the car, the temperature had dropped to 2ºC and it was almost dark.

Love evenings like this!
