Coming up robes

I love ghost signs. This one has recently appeared in Bruntsfield. I spoke to the decorator when I took the photo. He thinks that the robes date from the 1930s.

It was a long day for me today, but I very much enjoyed it. I started at my Friday morning breakfast networking meeting on George Street. Then I spent most of the day with my colleagues at an internal conference focused on research. Following this I had three further meetings: one about a journal article; the next a 'dry-run' session for three of my research students who are presenting at a conference next week; and the third a telephone meeting about a bid on which I am working.

The internal conference was the highlight of the day, largely because 60+ colleagues contributed to a series of fabulous one minute presentations on their work. There was a great buzz in the room after this, with everyone enthused to share their ideas with one another and make new connections.

I also gave a short talk about the recent activities of my research group at this event (the slides for which are available on SlideShare should you like to take a peek).

Exercise today: walk to work via George Street (13,203 steps).
