The Golden Key

I went to Hertford this evening for the second meeting of the Hertfordshire Mercury Tog Squad. It was held at The Old Barge on Folly Island. The island is formed by two streams of the River Lea and is accessed by a tiny bridge that I have heard often gets damaged by delivery lorries. It turns out that parking on the island is for residents only so I had to return and found a space outside a club.

My pic is of Hertford museum. The key came from an ironmongers known as Nunn’s which was situated at 18 Fore Street. It was a family run business and was established in 1798 and ceased trading in 1901. They sold everything from iron hurdles, wire netting, glass, cutlery, lamps, tools, general ironmongery and had workshops out the back where they made and repaired guns and made cartridges; they also carried out bell-hanging. It is thought that the key hung outside the building as an advertisement for the business. The whole area seemed to be bathed in a golden glow this evening.


Not that many photographers turned up for the meeting but I met some interesting people. Next month's theme is love.
