Pictorial blethers

Overflowing ...

A quick walk, we said. Just along the Pensioners' Mile and back before the rugby, we said. Yes, it's raining, and yes, it'll be worse among the hills, but ...

Much worse. Not only that: this normally simple walk (hence the nickname, which I think may be unique to us) was quite entertainingly difficult because of flooding - a huge puddle had us hanging onto a rusty iron fence as we crept along the very edge of the road to stay out of the deep bit. We'd seen that bit flooded before, but surely it hadn't been as wet as all that?

The reason was discovered a little further along the road, up a slight incline. The minor torrent (above) is normally a tiny burn that runs through a pipe under the road, but today the saturated hillside above was clearly shedding all its water and half its vegetation; the drain pipe was blocked and the water overflowing onto the road and running down the incline to feed our big puddle.

I'll put the picture of the puddle as my extra photo. You can tell that this wasn't a very exciting day, though the rugby was horribly stressful and ended, as so often, in disappointment. No photos of that, however ...
