Waterhouse

Part of the terracotta detailing on Alfred Waterhouse's Prudential Assurance Building in Bradford.

He may be most famous as the architect of London's Natural History Museum, but it is his string of commissions for the Prudential Assurance Company which gives him a presence in large towns and cities throughout England and Scotland. Red brick and terracotta is the signature of these buildings and in Bradford that makes it even more distinctive as we are a city built largely from sandstone.

So if you're in Nottingham, Liverpool, Holborn, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Leeds, Dundee, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Huddersfield, Bristol or Southampton see if you can spot your very own Waterhouse Prudential Assurance Building.
