Horton Bridge (Monday 29th February 2016)

I exploited the fine weather by taking a picnic lunch to the Small Grains Plantation on the edge of Calne. I ate it there and then walked up the chalk downs nature reserve known as Morgan's Hill. The view from there is shown in the Extra.

I then drove on to the closest canal spot, which is at Horton Bridge. I had a mooch up and down the towpath and surprised a heron. However, after it flown along the canal a short way it landed again, and instead of playing tag with me as herons usually do, it stayed put and allowed me to slowly creep up towards it until I was close enough to fill the frame with its portrait!
