First View

So we sadly said farewell to Lorraine and Doug this morning. A big thank you to them for their hospitality, good humour, yummy food and very comfortable bed. We look forward to catching up with them in the Lake District later in the year!
We had a wander around Timaru and an excellent cuppa in Sopheze before shopping and petrol and off north west to Tekapo, waving to Norma as we passed through her home town.
At Lake Tekapo we walked to the shoreline for blips of the turquoise lake surrounded by mountains and then lunched in another excellent cafe 'Run76' on bacon and tomato quiche before driving up the 'alpine road' to Mount John Observatory. We had fabulous 360 degree views from the top and could spot the different colours of Lakes Tekapo and Alexandrina, the former turquoise due to the glacial sugar in it, the latter deep blue because it hasn't!
From Mount John we drove south to our destination for tonight, a wild camp on the shore of Lake Pukaki and my blip is our view from Oscar the van (Oscar because he's a WILDErness van! Sorry!) This is our first view of Mount Cook at the northern end of Lake Pukaki.
