The Generals Well

This well ,The Generals Well, is next to the River Ness in Inverness.
' This is a Spring of fresh water o the banks o the River Ness about a mile South of Inverness at Ness Islands, it has been covered 0ver with mason work and a drinking cup attached by a General officer resident in Inverness about 100 years ago hence the name The General's Well is on the property of Duncan Grant Esqr.Bught.' ( info from ScotlandsPlaces)
There are three plaques one saying the following :
'This well is believed to have early Christian significance . It was named after General MacIntrye who lived in Bught House which was situated nearby. He used to drink the Spring water everyday, believing that it had health giving properties. A fishing beat on the river is called the Macintyre Pool.'

Another reads :
' The original ladle was provided
in 1872 by
Kenneth Mackenzie,
A native of Inverness
before emigrating to America'

The last one reads ' Warning not drinking water quality'.

There was plenty of water flowing and the 'basin' was full. The chain still remains but the ladle s no longer present. Daffodils, crocus and snowdrops have been planted around the well with a lovely wooden carved bench over looking Ness Islands and General MacIntryes suspension bridge. Mike had a meeting in Inverness so I got him to drop me at the Inverness
Botanic gardens. I found some fairy slippers, see extra.I had a lovely time looking round the gardens snapping away and then a walk next to the river to Eden court. Saw some long tailed tits busy gathering nest building material.
