Desolation road

On the way back from The Peaks, we stopped off to see friends and family in The West Riding of Yorkshire. Once an industrial heartland of the Nation it is now a sorry site in a lot of places, derelict pit land and broken industrial infrastructure litter the skyline. The job of reclaiming the industrial waste appears to have stalled. Cuts? and what could be a handsome walking park is littered with the detritus of failure and stupidity. Why fly-tip in the green spaces?

Castleford still has a lot going for it, friendly locals and decent Rugby League team. In town a pub, not mentioned in the 'Good Beer Guide', serving fabulous real, local ales in a space bursting with authentic charm and conviviality. 'The Junction', if you are in Cas, look it up, give yourself a treat!
