secret garden

Tobar Partalam

I had searched for for this little well on several occasions before but this time I took a navigator and his GPS. He spotted an intriguing little grassy hillock in a very boggy field and I was off. Kicking back brambles and furze I was delighted to reveal this beautiful beehive shaped little well - forgotten and abandoned but still in good condition under all the foliage. Just so interesting how a place once so revered can just be forgotten.
More about it here.

The forecast for the rest of the day is appalling - gales, torrential rain and an exceptionally high tide. It's also freezing and there was snow in some place this morning, and poor Cork city is already flooded. So, I am having  a useful day  on wells. Some have the most wonderfully poetic names. My favourites so far:
Tobereenaboolybeg- little well of the sunny milking field
Tobernamnafinna - well of the fair woman
Tobarnasangyny- well of the place abounding in ants
And not so lovely Toberelishna - well of the gangrene or abscess!

Many thanks to Rainie for hosting Derelict Sunday for the last few weeks,
Serpent will be taking over from  next week (DS26). Should you fancy a go at hosting Rainie has put some info up on the Forum.
