A family affair

We are now in the delightful town of Shaxi. It is a bit touristy and hippyfied but there are not many Westerners here, it seems to be mainly Chinese people. There are little quirky cafes and shops and I really like it. I managed to negotiate buying a tablecloth from a quite young girl at a roadside stall, without the use of any language at all. It is a tie dyed indigo cloth , a local speciality, because the plant from which indigo is made is grown here. It will probably run like anything and make my fingers go blue but what the heck.
I loved this family sitting out in the shade from the afternoon sun. The younger lady is peeling broad beans. The older one is just sitting watching the world go by.

Extra is a carving of an Indian figure, regarded as holy hence the halo. Indians and Chinese traversed this route using horses to trade tea. We went on a walk round some carvings in rocks, interesting, and a lovely walk.
