May Day

At its national convention in Chicago, held in 1884, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions, proclaimed that "eight hours shall constitute a legal day's labor from and after May 1, 1886."

``There are some people who think of patriotism as `my country right or wrong, but love of country is first and foremost a love for the people of the country. Making life more livable for the people, the poor and the oppressed is the first duty of every real patriot.''    Lenus Westman

This rose is for every child, woman, and man who lost their lives fighting for workers rights, safety and the end of child labor.

I am very proud to have known the only person elected to the Washington State Senate by the popular vote of the people but was refused his seat because of his beliefs.
