Angelita di Anzio

The statue of Angelita di Anzio stands on the beachfront right next to our apartment.

It was erected in memory of a young girl found wandering around the beach during the Allied landings in June 1944, distressed and frightened. She was rescued by some troops from the Royal Scots Fusiliers who cared for her until they could hand her over to Red Cross. Tragically within minutes of passing her to the Red Cross she was killed during shelling.

Sorry no happy ending.
