Yorkshire Wartime Experience

We spent today at the Yorkshire Wartime Experience, which was held in a field near Leeds.  This had lots of people dressed in period costume, complete with period equipment.  There were lots of tanks, lots of military vehicles and lots of noise.

This collage was done from the World War 1 battle exhibition, where the Scots advanced down the field after leaving their trenches.  This was complete with some very loud pyrotechnics, though to be honest the air pressure change was felt more than heard.  They were even accompanied by a bagpiper.  The main figure is (I think) from the Russian Army.

I found it very difficult to take photos at this event - lots of people around, and it was difficult to isolate the historical figures from the modern.  We did spot one photographer taking photos with period equipment.

We unfortunately had to leave before the big battle at the end of the day - Ikea beckoned - but given that they were warning people to take care of children's ears, I may have to bring earplugs next time...

It was a fun day out, more interesting than the steam fair.  I'm sure we'll try and come again next year.
