Bowood 2016 #27 (Tuesday 19th July 2016)

Having seen a young cuckoo on my last visit, I headed straight for the same Pinetum area, but of course there wasn't a repeat performance but I was treated to a personal appearance from a brown hare. Down at the Lake there were a couple of Canada geese on land and a bunch of them afloat in the middle of the Lake. Two herons were poised on the opposite bank, rather like those human statues that don't move, and a third flew across and disappeared into the trees. I also saw a couple of black headed gulls in breeding plumage. These aren't rare, of course, but not often seen at Bowood which is mostly home to lesser black backed gulls and this week had a couple of visiting terns that I didn't see.
My blip was taken on approach to the house and gardens, looking south, but I turned back and sat on a bench in the Lake Field watching and listening to the birds and other noises until it was time to walk up to the car.
