Roaring 20s

Thousands descended on Bexhill today for the annual Roaring 20s event. The seafront was packed with flappers, spivs, elegant ladies in cloche hats and gentlemen in fine suits not to mention vintage prams with babes in bonnets!

Vintage cars lined the promenade from Rolls Royce to Bentleys to an Austin Six. Jazz musicians and a marching band entertained with music from the era while 825 Charleston dancers performed at the Edwardian De La Warr Pavilion and missed beating the world record largest Charleston dance by a close margin.

Sea mist clung to the sea with visibility less than 2k at lunchtime. Thankfully it burned off by mid afternoon making way for deep blue cloudless sky in time for the air display by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight in the Spitfire and Hurricane.

Those cheeky RAF pilots caught me out approaching from the West rather than the East as you can see from my banter on Twitter last night.

Bringing British aviation heritage to life with finesse and style, pilots Parky and Smiley put on a great display rousing much applause and cheering from the crowd. My third year commentating this event and still one of my favourites stepping back in time by the sea side.

Brief for my next big air show gig is three outfits required: 40s USAF pin up girl (CHECK) land army (CHECK) and US Navy / South Pacific. I'm on the hunt for 40s naval themed costume... all tips welcomed! Event mid August.
