Are we friends?

With Facebook gradually taking over the world I find that many of my friends are becoming engrossed in the app on their smart phones. Everyone's collection of friends seems to grow on an almost daily basis but are they really all 'friends'? How many times have you seen someone post on their Facebook profile only for someone nearby to pick up the status update almost immediately?
