Green-veined White

I've been checking out a marshy field, well off the beaten track, that seems to have escaped any agricultural 'improvements', but has never been surveyed. It's crammed with wild flowers - bird's-foot trefoil, knapweed, marsh thistle, betony, sneezewort, meadow sweet... - which were crawling with butterflies and bees today. This lovely Green-veined White was just one of hundreds of great butterflies, including a rather worn Silver-washed Fritillary. After another visit to do some more systematic surveying, I hope the field and adjacent scrub thickets and copse can be designated a Local Wildlife Site.
