Still settling in today. I woke up really early and spent half an hour practising yoga balances and chi kung, and reading an excellent novel - The Green Road by Ann Enright. hanne Lene had a bit of a lie in and later we had breakfast and then walked down to the Piscina Naturais at Faja Grande, a half hour's walk away. The shoreline here is mainly formed by jagged black and dark brown volcanic rock and at the Piscina there is a sheltered deep channel where it is easy to get into the water or dive in off the rocks.
Later we went for a cup of coffee at a hippy cafÄ— near the beach run by a Portuguese man who is reputed to be a very good cook but a rather random restaurateur. Once you have ordered, the food can take ages to appear. When we arrived he was cutting back vegetation to reveal the restaurant sign. There was nearly a half an hour wait for our coffee but fortunately we were happy sitting enjoying the sea views, chatting and peoplewatching.

This is a shot of the west coast of Flores taken from the mountains above Faija Grande. The little hamlet in the distance, Ponta do Faija, is where we are staying
