The second half of life..

By twigs

It rained

....overnight......this morning.......began clearing early afternoon-ish.  Great day for Olympic watching.

Was so disappointed for Valerie Adams who led the women's shot put from her first put.  With just one thrower and herself left to throw, the American woman hurled out a monster put, about 0.8m further than her next best, and about 0.2, past Valerie's best.  Valerie's final throw fell short.

Valerie was robbed of an Olympic podium ceremony in London because of a drug-cheating Belrussian.  She missed out on having the anthem played for her, receving her gold medal in the stadium and all the fanfare that goes with Olympic golds.  Yes - she did receive her gold after the Belarussian was disqualified, but it wasn't the same.  I had so hoped she would win gold at Rio so she could be honoured with her ceremony . Sadly, it wasn't to be.  Another silver, although this time, things won't change.

Valerie has been such an icon of Kiwi athletics - such a fabulous role-model, such a great ambassador.  It's hard to see her making another Olympics.  This could be the twighlight of a fabulous career.  We'll have to wait and see.
