Wallenstein Week

To the hospital for a 90 minute pre.operation check. All sorts of fluids removed and sent for testing. Doc does another ultrasound (no no that wasn't the stone yesterday) and Get the "What can go wrong" lecture from the anaesthetists.

Then popped in to Memmingen to see what goes on there in Wallenstein week. Really was quite surprised how they transform all the green/garden areas around the centre in to camps of tents and wooden buildings, trying to give as much effort as possible to give a 17th century feel. It was a midweek midday so not that much happening but I did manage to capture the City's Mayor being escorted by a small singing guard, presumably to have lunch at one of the tents. Here short video.

Memmingen's Mayor is the longest serving one in Germany having won the post in 1980. Six elections (@ 6 years) for a Labour politician in an otherwise Conservative area. Usually the rest of the town council is a majority of Conservatives. However he seems to have been very popular and has done a great deal to make Memmingen one of the strongest economic areas in Swabia, He retires this year.
