Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla

Tonight we went to a concert by the CBSO in Birmingham.  It was to celebrate the appointment of Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla as the Musical Director.  In this shot she is on the far right.  

She gave a very exciting and energetic performance that was both musically and visually exciting.

The second item in the concert was a modern piece by Hans Abrahamsen who was at the performance and standing third from the right in the picture.  The other two are the soprano Barbara Hannigan and the author of the words Paul Griffiths.    This piece was slightly challenging but amazingly sung and played.

The more familiar Tchaikovsky Symphony No 4 finished the concert and was fantastic.   You can hear the whole performance at the Prom tomorrow night.
