Northerly wanders

Started the day with a walk along Farr beach - gorgeous expanses of empty sand and pale blue sea again - then up to Strathy Point to look for dolphins (unsuccessfully) but enjoyed watching the waves rush around the rocks. Decided to do the Strathnaver trail to see the Highland Clearing Villages but somehow managed to miss all the ruins, although the drive through the Naver valley and along the banks of Loch Naver was beautiful (extras).
Quick stop at Altnaharra hotel for coffee (amidst a hoard of classic car people who were touring) then drove up to Tongue and back along the coast. By now the Strathnaver museum was open and so we spent quite a while exploring it all and seeing all the very strange exhibits - including the thread spun from human hair, the buoy made from the skin of a dog, a whole room of Mackay clan memorabilia and several accounts of the clearances that gave an all too clear sense of the horror. 
Back to Farr beach for another wander now the tide was out - made pebble towers (extra) and watched a surfer.
Was quite warm and mainly sunny all day but just as we were coming off the beach some rain started so we came back to the hotel and I managed to do some photo sorting (huge task - but at least I worked out that I can post more extras from the laptop!) before scallops, langoustines and lobster for dinner. Delicious!
