La Tour de Vinde - Noirmont Martello tower

Looking over St. Aubins bay, Jersey, from Noirmont point, this Martello tower now doubles as a point light. The extra shows it again from the car park.

The point was rather augmented during the German occupation when they built a coastal battery here, complete with a six-storey radio-location tower and triple 150mm gun battery. It was proposed to build 9 of these towers all around the island that could triangulate together to give unequalled triangulation for the gun batteries and warships defending the island. Only three were built in the end and remain as impressive, but stark concrete structures on the coastline (see second extra).
