Onwards and upwards....

Max Seller.....

Day one of our battlefield tour....this chap was part of a German raiding party who attacked the British trenches in June 1915....all of his comrades were killed but he fought on and was finally killed by a British bayonet almost in one of their trenches....
He is buried in the Hyde Park War Graves Commission Cemetary near Messines and the British officer at the time was so taken with his bravery that they buried him with full honours. The British officer was Jewish and so was this German officer so they gave him a proper Jewish burial. His grave was never marked with the cross of David until very recently after the German War Graves Commission finally agreed that his records showed he was Jewish so engraved his stone appropriately.

Apologies for the lack of comments but we have been out all day for over 12 hours so no time to respond or see any journals tonight but I will hopefully catch up tomorrow!
