Skeleton

He had been the Coroner's Medical Examiner for over twenty years and he had never seen anything like this before. The cops had brought in the partial skeleton - torso, pelvis, right arm and upper part of the left leg. Something traumatic had happened to the rib cage - it had been shattered in an unusual way. But the real surprise came when he looked at the exposed ends of the broken bones under a microscope. Rather than bone, the ribs were a composite consisting of a blend of organic material, a metallic lattice and some polymers. The bones were light but immensely strong.

Who, or what, possessed such strength? And who, or what, was strong enough to cause such damage to someone or something so strong?
