A day out to the Colne Valley Regional Park today with June Fox.
After parking at the visitors centre and noting that the car park closed at 5pm, we set off for a walk along the Grand Union Canal from the Denham Deep Lock (the deepest on the canal) to the Waterwide Lock and the Bear on the Barge pub. A walk of around 5 miles there and back.
There was a slight current on the canal and leaves on the surface of the water which resulted in some nice long exposure patterns. I considered the slight movement in the trees and of this canal boat were worth it.
A late light lunch at the pub, which had some great quirky interior decoration, was good and we set off back to the car park at around 4.45pm. We belatedly, with around 2 miles to go, remembered the 5pm closure and sure enough the car park was locked when we got back. The staff still at the visitors centre did not have a key and repeated attempts to contact the park rangers or the council failed. A creative route out of the locked car park was found and we escaped without causing any damage :)
A great day with the usual fun and laughter and a lesson learned, don’t forget the car park closing time!
