Mantis Diary 6

After days of rain there was a longish break and I was able to get out to the garden. I saw 7 or 8 newly hatched praying mantis nymphs. They were spread about amongst the raindrops on leaves, ready to catch tiny flies. I have noticed that they are likely to hatch when there has been rain. I wonder if dampening the egg cases acts as a trigger. See Extra Shot of two differently coloured very young nymphs.

Rain is good for lichens too. Take a look at them in large when you look at the nymphs.
