Pieds Spied

I walked around Seventy Acres Lake for the first time in a while. It was incredibly quiet, hardly any people and very little wildlife in evidence. I was out earlier in the day than of late but the light was still poor. I know now why a birder friend only goes avian togging when the sun is shining.

The highlight of my day was seeing this lovely, male, great spotted woodpecker, or pied woodpecker as I like to call them in the old fashioned way.

I've added an impression of a magpie in flight taken at an unconventional 1/250 second to extras. :)
