Mountain flax.....

.....or otherwise known as coastal flax.

Phormium cookianum subsp. hookeri is an endemic NZ flax species and is distinguished by its yellow flowers and twisted seed heads. Located mainly in coastal areas but also round lakes and urban areas of the South Island.

It was the light on these bright yellow flowers which caught my eye today, light full of hope for a close and very dear friend who is unwell and also light to signify a journey of learning and exploring for my niece who has just finished her last day at primary school.

It's times like these I wish I lived closer, an emotional day for me, hugs to you both xxx

Thanks to BikerBear for hosting Flower Friday :)
