Male Bufflehead

These ducks are rather small and rather quick as they disappear head first underwater to gather their food; this one was in the process of diving so his neck is extended and his head was stretched to start the downward dive. See the extra to see what he looked like before he started his preparation to dive.  The day was overcast so there was no way I could get a twinkle of light on his eye. That is my normal criteria for a better bird photo.....light on the eye.....not possible today.  I didn't see the eagles anywhere around the nest or the wetland, but I wasn't outside for very long. Tonight is supposed to get down to 24 F and tomorrow is going to have a high of 30F(-1C).  That is very cold.....but wait, it is going to get down in the teens on Wednesday and Thursday! Burrrrr.
