Lower Compton (Saturday 21st January 2017)

Behind the recycling centre at Honeyball there are some major gravel pits and some pools, managed by Hills Waste. A cycle path runs through them from Low Lane in Calne to Lower Compton, emerging on the road to Compton Bassett, and I have walked it on occasion, but not this time when I visited the freezing cold pools at the Lower Compton end.
The previous day twenty-one red kites had been seen in the air above the cycle path and as soon as I arrived I saw two, circling and calling to each other very close by. I hadn't yet unpacked my cameras so didn't get any usable shots, but the resident pair of swans were on the far side of one of the pools, gliding through the broken ice as a lesser black-backed gull swept past with some food in its bill.
I got a couple of close-ups taken with my Nikon super-zoom bridge camera (see one in Extras) but for Blip I have chosen one taken with my red Pentax (quite severely cropped).

Lozarhythm of the Day:
Cherry Glazerr - Nurse Ratched (2014)
At the time Cherry Glazerr were Clementine Creevy, Hannah Uribe and Sean Redman, from Los Angeles CA, and this was from their EP Had 10 Dollaz. Nurse Ratched was of course the nurse from Salem State mental hospital in Ken Kesey's novel One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, memorably played by Louise Fletcher in the film. The song is included on Cherry Glazerr's new album, released on 20 January and splendidly titled Apocalipstick.
