Bradford on Avon (Friday 27th January 2017)

On Friday I drove to Bradford on Avon and parked in Pound Lane, near to the Tithe Barn. I had a look at Bradford Wharf first, and found it busy with quite a few boaters passing through, but a bit chilly to hang around in.
I wandered down to the River Avon in the Barton Country Park. As usual it was quite busy with dogs running freely and noisily. On the far side of the river a grey heron sat motionless fishing (see Extra) until a dog scared it away down river. I followed along the riverside path as I was heading for the Avoncliff aqueduct. I was quite unprepared for how muddy the path was and had the wrong footwear but persevered, and the walk back along the towpath was much easier. I saw a wren beside the river and on the return walk from the towpath I spotted a kestrel flying across the river into a tree.
Back in Bradford there was a pair of swans on the river beside the old footbridge, but as I blipped swans a few days ago this pair are relegated to Extras.
(This was the day I got my SD card back but then lost it again when it slipped out of my pocket while I was seated in the car. I spent quite a while scouring the car but it took a couple more trips and searches elsewhere before it was shaken into a spot that I could recover it from.)

Lozarhythm of the Day:
Cream - Spoonful (recorded early December 1966, Mayfair, London)
Fresh Cream was one of the first albums I ever bought. I got it at Walsall Market on the same day that I bought Are You Experienced - both newly released and life-changing albums. I haven't had a copy for several years, but on Friday I acquired a new Deluxe 4-disc set with stereo and new-to-CD mono mixes, alternate versions, radio sessions and demos. Spoonful was their hyper-blues revival of Howlin' Wolf's 1960 original of a song written by the great Willie Dixon, his producer and bass player. Cream played it live throughout their entire career, and it was a single (in truncated form) in America. There's a new stereo mix of the first recorded version on the set, but this is the standard version from the stereo edition of the original UK album (it was dropped from the US release in favour of the single I Feel Free).
