The Works

On my way to a meeting in Irlam I called in at Green Lane, and the housing site now well underway. Dawn in the sales office told me that 34 houses had already been sold, so there is clearly strong demand. I asked who was buying - young people living in city centre apartments in particular it seems. The site on the other site over the road is complete - young nurses, doctors and solicitors there, she said.

That site is branded "Bridgewater Park". Fair enough, it's next to the canal. This site is branded "The Works". It used to be the Mitchell Shackleton works. Latterly making crank and drive shafts for the marine industry. Previously, making most of the parts for Shackleton bombers.

The government published it's Housing white paper yesterday. It's top of my reading list :). Whether it will make any real difference to helping to deliver the housing the country needs, we will have to wait and see.

PS Bottom left pic , those trees line the M602. This site is visible from it as you speed by on your way into Manchester.
