Refugees Welcome

The Palacio de Cibeles is in the centre of the very centre of Madrid according to Google Maps, therefore a great place to see this message.

I arrived around lunch time and got a chance to explore the area a little before meeting my friend Becca  for drinks  and dinner in the evening.

There is no feeling that Spain is in recession here in Madrid. It feels like a lovely eclectic and modern European city with galleries and restaurants a plenty. This may not be so true out of the capital, however it has rapidly risen up the list of my favourite cities.

We were advised to book tables for dinner as locals here are keen on eating out and tend to do that late. Our dinner location in the evening specialised in Iberia ham (piggies reared on acorns). We ate starter tapas of croquetta's (the best cheese and ham delicacies we had all trip), peppers and anchovies, followed by roast meat served with sherry and wine. Situated in the Madrid equivelent of Bond Street, I can highly recommend Cino Jotas - Jorge Juan.
