Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Marischal College

This is the quadrangle of Marischal College, once part of the University of Aberdeen's estate, now the headquarters of Aberdeen City Council.
The college holds many happy memories for me. The wing to the right of the photograph housed the Department of Natural History where I learned my trade.
The high  tower forms the entrance to the Mitchell Hall where examinations were taken and where the successful would eventually graduate.
Of a Friday night, student dances took place in the hall and it was there in early 1964  that I was lucky enough to meet the future Mrs Talpa.
The "extra" shows the facade of the college reflected in the glass of Marischal Square, a massive and vile carbuncle of glass and concrete commercial space being constructed across the road.
