Reading the Signs

For the next one mile
there are turns without end,
left and right, then left again,
squiggles and wiggles
and corners and bends.

For the next one thousand,
seven hundred and sixty yards
there are turns without end.
It's enough to drive you
round the bend.

I remember learning that there were 1,760 yards in a mile when I was at primary school. Was amazed to find it's still tucked away in my brain ready to come it when I wanted it. Shame we've gone metric!
