Portland Day 3: Beer & Art & Food

Another full-on day, in the midst of ever-changing weather...

Breakfast and superb lattes at Crema, a short walk away, began the day, followed by a city bus to one of our "must visit" places -- Belmont Station bottle (beer) shop and "biercafe," where we had tasters of eight beers (over several hours).

Strolling afterward through the neighborhood near Belmont Station, we came upon this splendid mural in the North Tabor area, adjacent to the building that's the headquarters for Portland's traffic police. I loved that the police officer depicted on horseback was female!

We had a five-minute walk this evening to Luce, a delightful, unpretentious Italian restaurant. The food was simple, yet carefully wrought, as if a good friend had invited us for dinner. Half portions of the housemade pasta were available, enabling us to indulge in three courses without feeling stufed. My buttermilk panna cotta with a dollop of Sicilian pear jam was one of the most delicate, exquisite desserts I've ever eaten!

On Friday we're to Washington state for the day... stay tuned!
