Spring trees on Kilbride hill

Holy Trinity church (you can just see its grey stones beyond the trees) stands on a hill dedicated to St Bride. Down the slope to the left of the track is a tiny, ancient well seeping into the dead leaves of last year, St Bride's well. This is the view seen by anyone approaching the church up the steep driveway - but one more familiar in the morning light of countless Sundays. Today's photo was taken in the late afternoon, with the warm light over the hill called the Bishop's Seat illuminating the new leaves and the dark of the big evergreen near the rectory. The birds were singing; the air was warm.

For once, it really felt as if May-day was indeed the beginning of Spring.
