Ascog Fernery

Ascog Fernery was abandoned and derelict when the house, just outside Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, was bought by the Fyfes in the 1980s. The Victorian Fernery, built in 1875, was restored with the help of grant aid and the fern collection restored by the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.

Every year, members of the British Pteridological Society spend a day there helping to weed and maintain the amazing fern collection.

Here’s Professor Mary Gibby of the RBGE doing her bit by removing moss and lichens from the woodwork.

A wonderfully sunny  day, good fun and a sense of achieving something useful!

I've back-blipped a picture for yesterday.
