Sgwarnog: In the Field

Another Roadside Attraction

I had to be in Bingley this afternoon, and found myself walking across Cottingley Bridge on the way to my appointment.  I was last here on the first stage of my Bradford Millennium Way walk back in February, when I blipped the underside of the Cottingley Viaduct, which carries the new A650 Bingley Relief Road over the River Aire.

As this fading piece of paintwork shows, the old A650 used to come over this much smaller bridge (now it's the B6265).  When I first saw this sign I thought it marked the boundary between the A650 and the A800, but the A800 appears to be in West Lothian, not West Yorkshire.  Perhaps road bridges are numbered, like those over railways and canals? In which case was this Bridge 800 on the old A650?  That seems a lot of bridges.  If you have any better suggestions, let me know.  For now, I'll just file it under ghost signs.

This blip possibly exemplifies what I was doing in Bingley, but more on that later.

Coincidentally, my year ago blip shows that I was in Bingley then too, at the top, in Prince of Wales Park.
